Ex-Rockstar, convicted pedophile faces prison for discussing DarkNet.
Being born in the mid 40s, Garry Glitter’s name is not as popular as it used to be. The ex rock-star has been serving a 16 year prison sentence for over 8 years now. He was sentenced sexually assaulting two young girls. Despite his relatively short sentence for the crime, Garry was placed in a bail hostel last month, with half of his sentence still remaining. It did not take long for Garry to get back in trouble as he was filmed discussing the dark-net and trying to find out how to use it.
A bit about Garry.
Before being known as Garry Glitter, the singer was known as Paul Raven. In the 70s, Garry made it to the top of UK rock chars with over 20 million record sales in 180 weeks. The image of the star started to change soon after admitting to possessing 4,000 images of minors. He ended up being sentenced in 1999 and only served 4 months in prison.
In early 2002 he was expelled from Cambodia due to reports of more crimes. The reports claimed that the ex-star took a 12 and a 13 year old girl in his dressing room in Vietnam. Unfortunately Garry darkest side was still unproven for a long time, with him only being arrested and sentenced in 2015. The crime was conducting sexual activity with minors. The crime reportedly took place in the 70s.
Trouble after trouble.
The former rock-star was released from prison last month. Despite being set free, Garry still had to follow strict probation rules, and wear an ankle monitor. Despite being 78 years old, Garry managed to break rules fairly quickly. Another person staying in the same hostel room as Garry recorded him discussing the dark net. He was reportedly interested in learning how it works and how to use it. He was also seen discussing the duckduckgo search engine and its anonymity.
Discussing, or even accessing the dark-net is obviously legal, but not for Garry as it was against his strict probation guidelines. He was quickly arrested and sent back to prison. The Ministry of Justice commented on the situation, saying “ The protection of the public is our number one priority”. “That’s why we set tough license conditions and so when offenders breach them, we don’t hesitate to return them to custody”. “People use the Dark Web for nefarious purposes. Why else would you want to be on there? Onion is a slang phrase for Dark Web”.
A deserved penalty.
Being back in prison, Garry is expected to serve his full sentence for violating the terms of his probation. Many are even hoping for an extension. Considering Garry’s past, it is unlikely that his interest in the dark-net was sane. Despite that he is unlikely to be punished for trying to access any illicit material due to the lack of any proof.
